Lion of Africa Fund Managers is a wholly owned subsidiary of Commlife Holdings. Corporate Social Responsibility is driven at a group level with all underlying entities contributing to the group strategy. At a group level the company supports many initiatives, which include:

  • Matric Maths Programme
The group recognises the importance of excellence in mathematics. To this extent the group runs a matriculation maths programme from its offices over a six week period annually. Marginal maths candidates are identified by the Western Cape Education Department and place on the programme. The group provides its facilities over weekends, and pays for the tutors who administer the programme. The results have been very encouraging over the years.

  • Yabonga Children, HIV & AIDS in South Africa
Yabonga was founded in 1998 and initially provided support for educare centres that were operating informally in squatter settlements. Yabonga has since focused on providing support for HIV-infected mothers and their children. In 2001 a pilot project was initiated with the aim of training infected mothers in HIV education, self-growth and income generation. The pilot project was converted into a 4-month training programme and thus far 200 women have graduated as peer educators. Ten HIV/Aids support centres have been established in the communities and 120 women are employed in these centres as peer educators. Yabonga is currently active within 12 centres and employ more than 100 previously unemployed HIV positive women and men. Apart form the HIV/AIDS Programme for adults, Yabonga also runs an Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s Programme and Community Mother Programme as well as a Youth Programme which supports over 500 school-going children aged between 5 and 12 years.

  • Emerging artists programme
The group has supported many emerging artists from primarily the Western Cape. It has promoted these artists works by facilitating exhibitions and commissioning of paintings. The group’s offices are adorned by a collection of paintings by artists like Kervin Cupido, Frank Ross, and Sandy Esau. The group has also presented the artists works on its annual calendars.
